At the 6/15/2023 meeting during the PRIDE month resolution
Trustee MacDonald read this statement during the WJUSD Pride Month Resolution. Here is a transcription of her prepared statement:
For a long period of American history, lesbian, gay, and bisexual Americans have been grouped together with transgender Americans. And while I share with everyone here tremendous respect for the achievements and contributions of Americans who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, this coalition forces acceptance of every aspect of transgenderism in order to be considered an ally of the others, and that is wrong. The political needs and aims of these groups have always been divergent. Women who love women have little in common with women who wish to have a mastectomy, take testosterone, and live as men. Men who love men have little in common with men who wish to take estrogen and live as women. Since gay and lesbian Americans secured marriage equality in 2015, the focus of Pride has become an effort to normalize transgender identification, particularly among the young, and extremely successfully. Transgender identification has more than doubled in 5 years, particularly among teenage girls, who are one of the least likely demographics to identify as transgender until the last few years when they became the largest demographic to do so by a large margin. The increase has been so massive that it defies any reasonable explanation, beyond at least to some degree, social contagion. Children and adolescents whose senses of self are being formed and whose identities are still in flux, are increasingly getting the message that discomfort with sex stereotypes imposed by society, or with their own changing bodies, means that they were actually born in the wrong body and must transition in order to live authentically. I believe that we will soon follow the lead of our European brothers and sisters in recognizing that in our efforts to normalize transgender identification, we have had unintended consequences, and a reassessment is required. We must act with great caution in order to protect the increasing numbers of children who are experiencing transgender procedures as a result of social contagion, without sacrificing the tiny number of individuals who would identify as transgender even without social contagion, education campaigns, and the social cache attached to a transgender identity in the present. Por una gran temporada en la historia estadounidense, estadounidenses de ambiente lesbiana, gay, y bisexual han sido agrupados juntos con estadounidenses transgénero. Aunque comparto con todos presentes aquí un respeto tremendo por los logros y contribuciones de los estadounidenses quienes son lesbiana, gay, bisexual, y transgenero, esta coalición impone aceptación de cada aspecto del transgénero para poder ser considerado/a un/a aliado/a de los otros, lo cual es malo. Los objetivos y las necesidades políticas de estos grupos siempre se han divergido. Mujeres que aman a mujeres tienen muy poco en común con mujeres quienes desean tener una mastectomía, tomar testosterona, y vivir como hombres. Hombres que aman hombres tienen poco en común con hombres que desean tomar estrógeno y vivir como mujeres. Desde que estadounidenses gay y lesbianas garantizaron igualdad matrimonial en 2015, el enfoce de orgullo de ambiente se ha convertido un esfuerzo para normalizar la identificación de transgénero, en particular entre los jovenes, y con gran exito. En 5 años la identificación transgénero ha doblado de mas, en particular entre las jovenes adolescentes, una demografica menos apta de identificarse como transgénero hasta los ultimos pocos años cuando se hicieron el grupo demografico mas grande de hacerlo por un margen grande. El aumento ha sido tan enorme que desafía cualquier explicación razonable, más allá por lo menos algún grado, contagio social. A los niños y adolescentes se les sigue dando el mensaje que su incomodidad con los estereotipos de sexo imponidos por la sociedad, o con sus propios cuerpos en proceso de cambio, quienes sus sentidos de identidad estan formando y quienes identidades siguen en cambio constante, en realmente significa que ellos fueron nacidos en actualidad en el cuerpo malo y deben cambiarse de género para poder vivir auténticamente. Yo creo que nosotros pronto seguiremos el ejemplo de nuestros hermanos y hermanas europeas in reconociendo que en nuestros esfuerzos para normalizar la identificacion transgénero, hemos tenido consecuencias no deseadas, y una revaluacion es necesaria. Debemos de actuar con gran cuidado para poder proteger el numero de niños que va subiendo quienes estan teniendo procedimientos transgénero como resulta de el contagio social, sin sacrificar el numero diminuto de individuos quienes se identificarian como transgénero aun sin el contagio social, campañas educativas, y la distinción social conectada con una identidad transgénero en el presente. At the 6/17/2023 WJUSD School Board Retreat
Trustee MacDonald never intended or wanted to be a School Board Trustee, in her own words:
I’m going to be perfectly frank, I did not think I had a prayer of winning this election, if I had thought I was going to win the election I probably would not have run. I didn’t really need a position on the school board. I did not intend to add this to my list of responsibilities.
Voy a ser totalmente sincero, no pensaba que tuviera posibilidades de ganar estas elecciones, si hubiera pensado que iba a ganarlas probablemente no me habría presentado. Realmente no necesitaba un puesto en el consejo escolar. No tenía ninguna intención de añadir esto a mi lista de responsabilidades.
